About Ambleside

Ambleside has become a major tourist resort. With a range of shops, restaurants and even a cinema, there is plenty to do. Furthermore, it is highly popular with walkers and climbers. A short walk from the village centre is Stock Ghyll Force; a 70-foot waterfall.

The 17th Century Bridge House over Stock Ghyll beck is owned by the National Trust. It is also one of the most photographed areas in Lakeland. Additionally, Stagshaw Gardens is a short walk from Ambleside. With 8 acres, it boasts a fine collection of flowers, trees and shrubs.

Ambleside has a lovely primary school focused on outside learning. For those of secondary age, there is the Lake School and private Windermere School.

Located along the A591, Ambleside is well-position for those who wish to enjoy the best of the National Park. Furthermore, there is easy access to the M6 along the A591 and to Windermere train station. Access to the direct lines to Manchester and London is available from Oxenholme train station.
