Situated in one of the UK's coveted Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Cove Lea is a beautifully unique, multi-level home that holds an exciting surprise. Located along a private lane, just a short stroll to the Cove in Silverdale, it is not just the idyllic location that will prove popular with discerning buyers.
The main house dates back to 1852, originally part of a row of fishermen's cottages and a former residence of the late famed entertainer Victoria Wood. It is rich in period features with timeless interiors that are perfectly in tune with the property's heritage.
In 2015, the property was extended to create a fantastic open plan dining kitchen, a modern architecturally designed space, sympathetic to the existing building. To the first floor there are three double bedrooms each having stunning views over the surrounding National Trust fields and village beyond.
Finally, to the lower ground floor sits 'The Cottage', the former housemaid's quarters, that really makes this property such a unique find, especially in such a highly sought-after location.
The front garden of the property is also beautifully laid out with a tall flowering cherry tree standing prominently at the entrance, a stone flagged patio and neat lawn area. Practically, the private gated drive affords ample parking along with access to the detached single garage and adjoining workshop, an option for those looking to work from home as Cove Lea is connected to the B4RN hyper-fast broadband.
From Abbeyfield Drive, the main gates open onto Cove Lea's private drive and a stone flagged path leads to the main entrance of this elegant and charming stone fronted home: the stunning oak frame extension creates a striking and welcoming feature.
On entering, off the hallway is a useful boot room/utility room, an absolute essential when living in an area so rich with scenic walks.
A separate doorway leads into the open plan dining and kitchen extension and your attention is immediately taken to the expanse of natural light flowing into this unique space. Bi-folding doors open to reveal a stone flagged patio, a perfect space for 'al fresco' entertaining. The contemporary kitchen comprises a range of matt units finished with quality Silestone worktops, a feature mirrored along the windowsills within this room, adding character along with the exposed, original stone wall. Appliances within the kitchen include a Falcon range cooker with 6 ring gas hobs, integrated dishwasher, and fridge. The floors are attractively finished in engineered oak and benefit from under floor heating. This is a large and unique space which could comfortably accommodate a large farmhouse table seating family and friends.
A lockable door leads off the kitchen area to The Cottage on the floor below. A bespoke oak staircase leads up to the first floor.
The adjacent living room is located within the original footprint of the house and much attention has been paid to restore and preserve the wealth of original features. From the restored shutters of the grand, tall sash bay windows that overlook the main garden, to the rich plasterwork of the coving, ceiling rose, skirtings and picture rail. The room has exceptionally high ceilings that create a grandeur to this room along with an impressive multifuel stove that is set upon a slate hearth within a rich marble surround.
Upstairs there are a total of three double bedrooms. The master suite boasts a range of large, fitted wardrobes with an additional walk-in wardrobe and storage. The bedroom itself looks over a captivating view of fields owned by the National Trust. Its beautifully presented ensuite can be accessed from both the bedroom and dressing room and incorporates a modern freestanding bath, a tiled wet room with a walk-in 'rain' shower and 'his and her' sinks. On the landing is a further family shower-room. The remaining two bedrooms are generous sizes, and both enjoy beautiful countryside views.
A flagged path leads down the side of the property to access The Cottage, situated in the lower level of the main house. It has a pretty cottage style garden and a gate within the hedge leads directly onto Cove Lane and to the beach at the Cove with stunning views over Morecambe Bay.
Currently a popular holiday let, 'The Cottage' offers a living studio room, with includes the main bedroom, with an adjoining kitchenette and separate dining room, all overlooking the private garden. There is a smaller double bedroom, utility area and a bathroom with overhead shower. Presently used as a holiday let, 'The Cottage' proves popular with those looking for a quiet space in which to enjoy the best of this stunning conservation area. It achieves prices ranging from £85 to £150 per night. For those not looking for extra income potential, 'The Cottage' would also be ideal for dependant relatives.
Directions As you approach Silverdale, follow the signs to 'Holgates' caravan park via Redbridge Lane, passing the Golf Club and the railway station. Take the next left onto Park Road and then, after a quarter of a mile, a right on to Cove Road, passing the village children's' play park and through a narrow section of road. As the road straightens out, with a field to your left you will see the entrance to 'Abbeyfield' and the private Abbeyfield Drive in front of you, at the corner.
