Originally built in 1860 in traditional Lakeland stone, Above Beck formerly stood as one residence however was masterfully split into three properties in the 1960s. The adjoining properties have subsequently been combined to create one home, making 2 Above Beck a fine semi-detached property that is steeped full of immaculately retained original features and sympathetic upgrades. In the same ownership for 23 years, it has been of great importance to the present owners to maintain the historical attributes of the home and when they instructed a two storey extension of the home in 2007, every effort was made to blend the new construction seamlessly into the original, both internally and externally. The result is a magnificent home to the ground floor offering a modern breakfast kitchen, grand entrance hall, sympathetically designed living room, an imposing drawing room featuring original wood panelling, marble fireplaces and ornate plasterwork. To the second floor there are three well proportioned double bedrooms, all of which are en suite. The principal bedroom offers a striking view over the fells and the large ensuite is fully finished with original marble tiling. The grounds of 2 Above Beck were originally landscaped by the renowned Thomas Mawson and are a delightful display of flora and fauna which attracts deer and red squirrel. From the tall Cedar and Wellingtonia tree to the front, to the quaint hidden patio set up high in the garden, looking out over Helm Crag, there is certainly intrigue at every turn.

Vibrant shrubbery follows the gravelled driveway as it leads up to this grand yet elegantly designed residence. There is ample parking available with the property at the top of the drive along with access to a detached single garage. The original entrance of Above Beck has been replicated to form the private entrance to number 2, accessed from within tall wrought iron gates bringing you into a private entrance courtyard. The grand pitched design of the entrance vestibule is an ecclesiastical wonder with a large York stone surround. The vestibule leads into a grand entrance hall which actually forms part of the 2007 extension. The floors are sympathetically finished in solid oak and the bespoke oak staircase has been beautifully crafted with wooden panelling concealing the door to the cloak room with WC. Tall glazed double oak doors with glazed surrounds open out into the living room that has been painstakingly updated with sympathetic connotations such as the intricate coving, period decorations and a large York stone fireplace.

The kitchen can be accessed from both the living room and the hall to form a wrap around flow to the accommodation. A further addition to the extension of the original home has created a wonderful breakfast kitchen, with an informal seating area set in front of the tall windows overlooking the front. The kitchen was designed by Atlantis Kitchens of Kendal and comprises a range of bespoke and immaculately maintained painted shaker style units finished with rich granite worktops and complimentary tiled splash back. Appliances include a Bosch double oven, grill and microwave, integrated dishwasher, washing machine and dryer along with space for an American style fridge freezer. The final room to the ground floor accommodation is the greatest surprise of this historical home. The drawing room is located to the front elevation and is grand in both proportions and original features. The walls are finished with rich original wood panelling with intricately carved detailing. It contrasts beautifully with the ornate plasterwork and friezes to the ceiling and the original
wood parquet flooring. The tall bay window and original stone mullioned windows afford ample natural light
and a glimpse across the fells. This space is the ultimate area of entertaining and is certainly show stopping,
with space for both reception and dining furniture. The original marble fireplace with brass insert and fender
perfectly finish this rich historical space.

The bespoke oak staircase leads up to the first floor to open out onto a spacious landing area where you can access the fully boarded loft space. The principal bedroom of the property is steeped in natural light that is drawn in from the tall double glazed windows, bouncing across the high ceilings and perfectly capturing the view to Helm Crag and Silver Howe. There is a range of fitted wardrobes and bedroom furniture and also the benefit of the large ensuite. This beautiful original space is finished with solid marble tiling to the walls and there are even marble architraves. The stone mullioned windows are a great feature and the sanitary ware has been selected in honour of the period, with a freestanding claw foot bath and a his and hers marble topped vanity sink. The remaining two bedrooms are each of double proportions and of course offer there own unique charm, with high ceilings, pretty views and each with an ensuite.
